Consider CPHQ Certification!
The National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ) is the parent professional association of the Healthcare Quality Certification Board (HQCB) which administers the distinctive Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) certification exam.

The CPHQ certification recognizes professional and academic achievement by individuals in the field of healthcare quality management. The comprehensive body of knowledge includes quality management, quality improvement, case management, utilization management and risk management at all employment levels and in all healthcare settings. The CPHQ program is fully accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies of the National Organization for Competency Assurance in Washington, DC, the only national voluntary program in the field to achieve this accreditation

Look here for a CPHQ Self-Assessment Exam.  You will not believe how helpful your study for this certification will help you even if you are new to health care quality.  The study makes sense of all of the puzzle pieces that you can perform at your best.

Diane Dobbes, MBA: “Applying Lean to Healthcare.”
Lean is about flow
•         Ideal Flow= Zero Waste= 100% patient /customer value.
•         Most systems are a vertical model set up to function in their own right.
•         Can’t manage a process unless you understand it.  Check value time for you and your   patients or customers.
•         Horizontal flow is across the continuum: Looking at the stream flow for patients i.e.       starting from patient scheduling; through primary care; through specialist; surgery; and           after care.
•         Through continuous improvement, the process is improved to move closer to the ideal    state: ZERO WASTE, 100% customer value.
Lean is not a project it is a process tool.

Successful CPHQ Review Session
On August 19 & 20th, 2011, OrAHQ hosted a review/preparation course for the Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) exam.Dr. Susan Mellott, President and CEO of Mellot & Associates was the instructor for the course. It was approved for 13.4 CEU’s towards CPHQ recertification.

Thirty participants were preparing for their CPHQ and five were taking the course as a refresher. Overall feedback was positive, with a mean of 4.1-4.9 on a scale of 1-5, 1 being strongly disagree and 5 being strongly agree. Comments included “ Excellent refresher; I wish I could have taken this course before I took the exam. It was better than I expected!” and “Instructor was very good! she has a very good way of interacting with the audience and provides information in a way we can understand.”

Areas identified for improvement included “This course was very hospital-focused. I wish more examples could have related to other settings, i.e. insurance, mental health, etc.” “It would be helpful to work the Information Management material into the other topics.” Participant Anna Ulrich stated, “I’m so glad I came, even though I was the only one from Idaho!”

Because of the positive response to this workshop, OrAHQ intends to hold another in 2012.
